For decades, schools have been striving to create "Bully Free Zones," attempting to instil the importance of kindness and ensuring that no one has the right to say mean things. While these efforts are commendable, the reality is that in many schools, this approach has not been as effective as hoped. One of the biggest challenges is that we focus on teaching children not to be mean, but we often neglect to equip them with the tools they need to avoid becoming victims of bullying in the first place.
That’s where my approach differs from traditional anti-bullying programs. Instead of simply teaching students to be kind, I focus on teaching them how to respond to unkind behaviour when they encounter it. This backdoor approach tackles the problem of bullying at its core by addressing how students can avoid becoming victims. As Brooks Gibbs aptly put it, "If we victim-proof students, we are more likely to bully-proof schools."
My goal is to help students BEE READY, which means equipping them with the emotional resilience they need to handle social challenges with confidence. This approach doesn’t just teach kids how to avoid being hurt by others' words or actions—it empowers them to take control of their emotional responses and maintain their sense of self-worth, regardless of how others behave. This includes helping students deal with verbal bullying in person as well as the often-overlooked issue of cyberbullying, where emotional resilience is just as crucial.
By focusing on emotional resilience, we are building a generation of students who not only stand up for themselves but also contribute to creating a safer, more supportive environment for everyone. The result is a school culture where bullying—whether verbal, physical, or online—becomes less of an issue, not because students are told to be nice, but because they are empowered to respond in healthy and confident ways, preventing victimisation before it even starts.
So are you and your students ready to BEE READY
With a growing rate of disruption in the workforce and with people being hired for not just their qualifications but how they can use their creative flair to help build companies and make better working worlds. The future generations are going to need to learn how to present themselves with confidence and flair and how to receive constructive feedback.
Bee Ready has worked in the Sport, Outdoor, and Education space for over 15 years. However during that time, it was seen that employees are measured by their hard skill and safety performance, but still, some employees struggle to engage with an audience and therefore can't give the positive impact that is intended. Bee Ready can help you and your employees to BE READY.
We offer interactive workshops to develop confidence, leadership, communication, and teamwork.
So do you need to be more engaged with your audience, your customer, yourself?
Does your staff need to know about how to give and most importantly receive feedback, and can they set goals for themselves?
Do you feel your team needs to develop and you need a team-building event so you can connect, bond, and grow?
Bee Ready would like to help you “BE READY”.
By having Bee Ready workshops in your workplace, we can help you and your employees:
become more passionate, confident, and engaged
boost morale, communication, and leadership
BEE READY is passionate about creating a positive impact on people's lives and helping them create a positive impact on others they encounter.
So are you READY?
My presentation teaches students how to be emotionally resilient, so they are not bothered by people’s mean words or actions. I teach students how to identify why someone is being mean and how to stop the mean behaviour. What I teach is so simple, fun, and effective.
